Alex Courtney from Boston, Massachusetts asked the Suitupp.com team “what is the deal with belts? What do I wear and when do I wear it?” This is a great question that every guy should know the answer to.
Belts essentially serve two purposes: functional and aesthetic. If you are really wearing a belt to keep your trousers from slipping, then by all means go ahead. But, you’ll have to keep the aesthetics in mind along the way.
When you are wearing a belt, the most important aspect to consider is that it matches your shoes. For example, if you are wearing a pair of black shoes, make sure to have a nice slick black belt. Typically, if you are wearing jeans, you’ll want to wear a thicker belt than what you would wear with your suit pants from SuitUpp.com.
In terms of the buckle, metal is definitely in these days so a nice silvered colored buckle will serve you quite well. Be careful, though, not to use an oversized buckle since if it looks too flashy, it will defeat its original intent. Of course, this all depends on the occasion. If you are going out for a night of clubbing, being a little flashy is probably not all that bad an ideal; however, if you are looking for something professional, then try not to be too flashy.
